Thoracic medicine specialist evaluate, diagnose and treat human respiratory diseases and disorders. They work primarily in Healthcare and Social Assistance industry. 

Minimum requirements for thoracic medicine specialist include bachelor’s degree, relevant work experience, and registration. 

 

Job Description

  • perform diagnostic test using CT scans, chest fluoroscopies, ultrasounds, and bronchoscopies. 
  • evaluate and manage acute, chronic and complex conditions of the respiratory system that affect the lungs, the upper airways and the chest wall 
  • treat lung cancer, tuberculosis, pneumonia, mesothelioma, asthma, and other infectious respiratory diseases and some congenital disorders such as cystic fibrosis
  • refer patients to cardiothoracic surgeons, when necessary
