Chiropractors and Osteopaths

Chiropractors and Osteopaths determine and treat mechanical and physiological disorders of the locomotor system and tissue strain, stress and dysfunction that block normal neural, vascular and biochemical systems and dispense advice on preventing these disorders. Common duties include:

  • perform neurological, musculoskeletal and functional examinations to identify and assess physical problems and ailments of patients
  • prepare and discuss effective management of patients' dysfunction
  • design, evaluate and monitor treatment programs
  • help and enhance the function of all body systems such as musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, endocrine and genitourinary systems
  • refer patients to specialists and liaise with other Health Professionals in relation to patients' problems, needs and progress
  • lecture patients and their family members in home exercises and lifestyle changes to improve patients' health and wellbeing
 
Chiropractors and Osteopaths work in most parts of Australia, with the biggest share in Victoria. They work primarily in the Healthcare and Social Assistance industry. 
 
In recent years, demand for Chiropractors and Osteopaths have grown strongly and is expected to continue in the future. Growth continues in the next five years, from 5,200 in 2018 to 6,200 by 2023 or around 2,000 job openings in 5 years.
 
Minimum requirements for Chiropractors and Osteopaths include bachelor’s degree, relevant work experience, and registration.
