Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

Obstreticians and gynaecologists diagnose, treat and help prevent medical and surgical procedures associated to the care of women, foetuses and children during pregnancy and childbirth, and to female genital diseases and urinary, rectal and reproductive organs. They work in the Health Care and Social Assistance industries. 
 
Minimum requirements for obstretician and gynaecologist include a bachelor’s degree, relevant experience, and registration.  
 
 

Job Description

  • examine female patients for diseases of the reproductive system using a speculum and conducting pelvic exams, pap smear, hysterosalpingography, ultrasonography and pregnancy testing  
  • prescribe medication during prenatal, natal and post-natal periods
  • perform normal and cesarean birth procedures as needed to deliver babies safely and preserve patients’ health
  • provide proactive health advice and monitor abnormal changes in a woman’s reproductive system
