Occupational Therapist treats ill, disabled or injured patients through therapeutic use of everyday activities. They aid patients in developing, recovering, improving, as well as maintaining the abilities needed for daily living and working. 

Occupational Therapists work in most parts of Australia. They work primarily in the Healthcare and Social Assistance; Public Administration and Safety; and Education and Training industries. In recent years, Occupational Therapists have shown growth and is predicted to continue in the future.

There is strong employment demand for Occupational Therapist in the next five years: from 25,000 in 2018 to 27,300 by 2023 or around 13,000 job openings in 5 years.
 
Full-time work is common. Minimum requirements for Occupational Therapists include bachelor’s degree, relevant work experience, and registration. 
 
 

Job Description

  • evaluate the patient’s functional potential in their home and work and recommend environmental adaptations to maximise their performance
  • manage programs using vocational, recreational, remedial, social and educational activities on an individual and group basis
  • advise family members, carers, employers and teachers about adapting clients' home, leisure, work and school environments
  • give wheelchairs, splints and other adaptive equipment to help patients overcome their functional limitations
  • team up with other Health Professionals in overall case management of clients
