Sonographers operate ultrasound equipment to capture, interpret and record anatomical images necessary for the evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of patients with injuries and diseases. They work in the Health Care and Social Assistance industries. 
 
Minimum requirements for sonographers include a bachelor’s degree, relevant experience, and registration.
 
 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • receive a referral to conduct medical imaging of patients 
  • determine the appropriate equipment to use and the settings required to perform diagnostic techniques 
  • perform ultrasonic examinations on patients to produce high-quality images 
  • submit examination findings to physicians and other medical personnel 
  • may help physicians during invasive procedures 
  • ensure safety in work areas
