Health and Welfare Support Workers aid health professionals in the provision of patient care in hospitals, nursing homes and other health and community-based care facilities, and provide support, information and advice to clients on a range of social welfare concerns. Common duties include: 

• attend accidents and injuries by providing pre-hospital care and transport
• plan and roll-out leisure activity programs for individuals in health care and in the community to assist in patient’s social development and well-being
• evaluate, plan and implement nursing care for patients according to accepted nursing practise and standards
• help in the advocacy and education in the provision and coordination of health care delivery to indigenous communities
• advise clients on emotional, recreational, health, financial, housing and other social welfare issues
